There are established promotions and relegations between the Trophy and the Championship. The team that finishes worst in the Championship will be demoted to the Trophy for the following season, while the Trophy champion will participate in the Championship.

IRB Junior World Championship 2023 is the 13th edition of this competition. The competition will take place from 24th june till 4th july 2023 in South Africa. Teams are restricted to the players of less than 20 years.

Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and Wales are among the unions that will compete in the 2023 World Rugby U20 Championship.

Scotland will be among the favorites to win the World Rugby U20 Trophy in 2023, but they will face competition from teams like Portugal and Uruguay, both of which have performed well in recent tournaments.

Participating unions in the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2023 are Scotland (relegated from the U20 Championship 2019), the host nation, and six teams that qualified through regional competitions.

The World Rugby U20 Championship and U20 Trophy return in 2023 for the first time since the pandemic. South Africa will host the 12-team U20 Championship from 24 June to 14 July, before Kenya stages the U20 Trophy, featuring eight teams, from 15-30 July.

The year will kick-off, though, in Europe with the U20 Six Nations from 3 February involving England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.
